Crashes occasionally when clicking links

Feb 10, 2009 at 2:44 PM
My chirpr seems to crash randomly when I click on links inside of tweets. I would estimate it happens 5% of the time. I am running Vista 64-bit Ultimate. Any ideas?

Both links seemed to work. Can you post all of the text in the tweet? I have a guess as to what the problem is, but need the tweet text.

Here is the text from a tweet that just crashed it (the links that crash it are not always in parenthesis):

Pantone Messenger Bag Giveaway | ImJustCreative (http://ping.fm/BNfgj)

Here is another one that crashed it:

That's what I figured. It's due to the extra characters. Some will be hard to handle. For instance, how do we know whether or not a parenthesis is in the URL, since it's a valid character. The last example is surprising, tho. I actually didn't expect Chirpr to pick that up as a link, due to the "@". That, we can definitely fix. I've also seen some cases where some extra periods have been appended. I saw that one on Twitter's website, but I imagine Chirpr would do the same thing. There are some guesses we can make and keep our fingers crossed about being right, but those won't always be the case. We'll look at the logic and see how much we can improve it for the next release. Thanks!

FYI - This should be fixed in the 0.5 pre-release! Give it a shot, if you have a chance.
