Tweet could not be sent / special chars

I tried to send this tweet, and it failed:

New blog post: <a href="http://tinyurl.com/5d2hyy">Auto Generating a Data Dictionary - Part 2</a> Note: the < and the > are the actual symbols.

The first thing I'd say is that Twitter doesn't support URLs in this way... at least, I don't think it does. I can't test this right now (Twitter is blocked), but I'll try to see if I can duplicate this when I get home later.

Thanks for replying.  What is the format?  I did a quick scan of the FAQ, and I found lots of irrelevant info, but not the howto type of stuff.  I was wondering if maybe it is BBcode or something similar.

The only way I've seen URLs posted is by simply pasting the URL directly. For instance, I would probably reword your tweet to something like this:

Auto-Generating a Data Dictionary (Part 2) @ http://tinyurl.com/5d2hyy

Twitter will parse the message to convert the "http://..." to a link.
